IML: 8 Track Monaural vs 8 Track with Multiplex Option

I may have missed something in this thread, but some facts of the matter
brought something to mind. Please pardon if this repeats what other's have
said.
As I recall, the 8 track radio option is a monaural radio, providing a total
of 2 speakers, one front dashtop mounted speaker and one rear shelf speaker,
or top center rear seat speaker in the convertible models.
It is when the separate multiplex option was ordered that the lower door
panels received speakers, and then added an extra speaker to the rear shelf,
making a total of 5 speakers. The dashtop speaker received a blend of the
two channels. I don't know how 2 rear speakers would be accomodated in the
convertible models.

That is strange about the door panels not having any sign of the speakers
having been installed - I suspect some previous owner has changed the
panels. My 67 Convertible also had the ribbed panels, but I didn't realize
68's did.
Can someone else with a 68 convertible with stereo please speak up and tell
us how the speakers are mounted (and if the door panels are the metal ribbed
type?)

By kick panels I mean the lowest portion of the doors.
On the convertible and Crown Coupe, this area has a
ribbed metal plate that runs the length of the door. I
suppose this could be called a skuff plate.
For whatever reason, the doors in my convertible have
no speakers nor holes in the skuff plate to accomodate
them. Strange, especially since the build sheet and
wiring show that the car came with an 8-track.
