Please help me and tell me I'm not going nuts. I read this, too, but I
can't find it in the FSM or the owner's manual. Maybe in a technician's
pamphlet, but definitely something published by Chrysler Corp. It said
(without explanation) after a certain number of minutes it's better to idle
in N than D. As previously noted, though, if you're going to be idling
that long it's usually a better idea to turn the car off.
In normal stop and go traffic, D is the position. You will put more wear
on the bands by frequently going into forward gear from N or P, especially
if you have a high idle speed.
