Actually, 1960 offered two tone paint as an option. This was applied to the roof inserts. There were three things that the roof inserts could be. They could be the same color as the rest of the car (thus no two tone), stainless steel inserts (called Silvercrest), or they could be a contrasting color to the body (two tone). The two tone paint scheme had a name also. I believe that it is shown and described on the page in the 1960 Sales Brochure that illustrates a dark metallic green Crown Sedan with pale green roof inserts.

To the best of my knowledge, 59 was the last year for 2 tone paint. They
offered a stainless insert as the 60 also did.

Subject: Re: IML: Two tone paint/ 1961
I thought I sent this but got a funky message from Comcast so I am sending
again:
Our '61 Crown 4DHT has black "inserts" in the roof in a landau fashion and
these "inserts" are painted and have some texture to them separated from
the remainder of the roof with stainless steel trim pieces.
I don't know if they are original since the car has been painted. The original paint code was for Sahara Sand but it is a faded russett red right now and the build sheet doesn't say anything about "inserts" or two-tone paint.

You should check the sales brochure for 1961 that is available for your viewing at the OIC Website, Imperials By Year. It should describe the roof treatment options that were available that year.
I remember seeing a few '61s with a contrasting color painted into the
roof
inserts back when the cars were new. Specifically, I remember a dark
metallic
blue Southampton Four Door car with white roof inserts, and a white
Southampton
Two Door car with bright metallic green inserts. I believe that both cars
were
Customs.
There were never very many '61 Imperials on the road, and most of the ones that I remember seeing were either solid colors or had the stainless steel inserts (two separate Black LeBarons). These are the only two tone cars I remember seeing, and I don't know if they were factory, or done aftermarket.

know if there was a two-tone paint option available in 1961
(specifically, the
landau portion of the roof)? I know that stainless steel inserts were an
option, and I know that this type of two-toning was available on the 1960
models.
