Many radiator companies also work on gas tanks. A sort of impervious
polymer membrane can be installed inside your tank, almost regardless of its
condition. The new lining reduces capacity somewhat, which makes your fuel
gauge off which might be a significant draw back. We had a Model A and the
tank was corroded and getting worse. The metal had become altogether too
thin. The coating had several benefits for this situation. I'm not
sure if an amateur can or should try the procedure.
Anyway you look at it, the loss of your original tank is regrettable.
I assume a replacement of similar capacity was installed.
