John,
Always change the oil & filter right before you go. You did not mention
having done that. Well, "always" = in the last 30 days or few humdred
miles, whatever. Also, make sure your tires are inflated to the max
allowable, so the engine's not pushing extra load. Let us know if any
of this helps.

After some adjustments to the carb, the retest showed 3.77 under
