Thanks Randy for you research, and yes I would
like to have a copy of the service manual showing the gas tank vent tubes.

vents
A
search of my 1973 Chrysler Chassis Service manual on page 14-53 shows four
evaporative emission tubes on the fuel tank-all of which go to the vapor-liquid
separator located just in front of, and slightly higher than, the fuel
tank. From the vapor-liquid separator there is a single emission hose
leading to the charcoal canister located in the right front fender well.
(The other two hoses on the charcoal canister go to
the carburetor.) According to my service manual, this tank configuration
fits all Chrysler, Fury, and Imperial models for 1973. Since the text and
the diagrams in the book indicate that all four tubes leading from the tank
enter the vapor-liquid separator, and their sole purpose is to transfer vapor
from the tank to the separator, I would surmise that the repair you
proposed would be acceptable. If you would like a copy of the pages in the
service manual, let me know. I hope this helps!

Sorry guys, I've been out of town since the
7th - but I don't know anything
about this subject anyway, other than the fact that there is a vapor return
line from the canister and one from the fuel pump - I cannot explain 4
tubes.

I'm not sure. This sounds like a question for Dick B. I'm guessing that your
car has the recirculating canister up front. I don't know if disabling that
would cause any problems. I have a 69 with 2 vent holes. The vent tube comes
through the trunk floor & back out again. A rather strange set up I think.
