Re: IML: LeBaron Vinyl Tops

Another thing to keep in mind is that some years, (I know 64 does) use different roof stainless trim for vinyl & non vinyl tops.

Changing from vinyl to "slick-top" does change the look of the car. If the car is black w/black top (like mint) the change is probably less so. Dudley's '68 LeBaron (REAL nice car by the way)for example, is black w/out vinyl top and it still has that formal pseudo-limo look. However, if it has a contrasting color vinyl top, and you switch to body color metal it WILL look different.

Have seen few LeBaron "slick-tops," but I seem to remember seeing one in light blue, it looked less formal (to me) than w/the vinyl top, more like a Crown or sedan. Maybe with a dark silver or midnight blue it will still have a formal appearance, but it seems to change on lighter colors.

More formal, or less formal, it's a matter of taste.....

With all the LeBaron vinyl top talk, I have to ask, has anyone pulled the vinyl top off a '67 or '68 LeBaron? Does it use a fiberglass filler panel like the '69-up cars (and '70-71 SE Challengers), or is there steel around the glass?

I've been considering deleting the vinyl top from mine. It's not in bad
shape, but it's buckling around the C-pillars. And if I'm going to paint
the car this year, I'd prefer peeling the top off and cleaning up the metal
under there before it gets paint. I'd prefer to paint the top when I'm
done, but if it isn't metal around the rear window, it will stay vinyl.
