You can drop the driveline without fear of "messing things up". Just follow the instructions. It is VERY easy. If you put the shims back in the way that they came out you shouldn't have a vibration problem. The splines between the two drive shafts are keyed, so that they can only go back together one way. You should service or replace the u-joints while you are at it. If they have grease fittings, check them carefully for wear before shooting them with your grease gun and reassembling the drive line. Inspect the center bearing and insulator as well.

If you find other worn parts, replace them now. Just because everything seems fine, doesn't mean that it is. It is a good idea to "go all the way" and do it right. It is much better than discovering that you had a problem that you didn't know about while cruising at high speed on a lonely desert highway.
