The parts book calls both of them "mufflers", and they look like mufflers to me. I looked under my '66 Coupe barn find, and there's a pair of mufflers under there. In addition, the line drawing in the FSM clearly shows mufflers. I think what the factory was trying to tell us is when the exhaust is done correctly you don't need resonators. If it's too loud, something is wrong -- usually leaks or rigid hangers transmitting vibration to the frame/body. Then the space behind your fender panels resonates like a kettle drum. I suppose in theory you could say the second muffler is functioning as a resonator, but a muffler by any other name smells as sweet when it's behind a 440. Are you saying it's loud inside the car or outside? Have someone drive your car at wide open throttle while you stand on the side of the road and see if you perceive it as loud. -- David Kenyon Wills <imperialist1960@xxxxxxx To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx om> cc: Sent by: Subject: Re: IML: Exhaust for 66 mailing-list-owner@imper ialclub.com 03/31/2005 07:37 PM Please respond to mailing-list first one is a muffler, second a resonator, right? ALso, if you're redoing your exhaust, you should print this out and take to the exhaust place to avoid the free-form art that they sometimes practice with disasterous results: http://imperialclub.com/Repair/Exhaust/ExhaustBendingDirections/index.htm -Kenyon ====================================================== > The factory manual and the part pages on the club > web site do not show > resonators.
