As an old fossil who once stuffed a 51 hemi into a 51 Ford-
Comparing the Imps to Cads is an "apples to oranges" thing. There are too
many individual areas where each is separately outstanding. I have owned 55-75
Imps, currently still have two, a 55 and a 65 convert. The Imps beginning with
torsion bars had outstanding handling, felt almost like sports cars on twisty
roads. The cads had a soft ride, nowhere near as taut.
I believe a different kind of driver purchased each-the Imperials being
owned by people who like to drive cars, the Cads by those who wanted pure
prestige in the driveway.
The hemis were/are great engines-but at our annual "Fun Run" a slant six
modified beat a hemi powered unit three times out of the gate on the quarter
mile. Hard to catch a hemi over eighty mph or so-but from stop light to stop
light there are many cars that can beat them-including the old Hudson Hornets,
as a member stated. The hemi has , like the 57 Chebby, become something of
a legend among car people, and perhaps, like my lab retriever, looks more
fearsome than it is. I would not ,of course, want anything else in my 55
Imp! But the 65 could really haul in its day-
