In reading this some have stated they had to return to add resonators to the
system after leaving the muffler shop with new mufflers. The current trend is
to install large diameter tubed mufflers, ... that are about half the lenght
of the OEM muffler. The result in doing this is noise that is hushed by
installing the resonators.
The "turbo" muffler is an after market copy of the muffler based on what
MoPar started using about 1968 with the performance cars. This muffler is still a
short " can " muffler that will need the resonators. Take a moment and find
the drawings offered at the time showing the different exhaust systems
offered. The fastest regular MoPar in the late sixties was the four door Dodge
Polara with the 440 that State Troopers used. This car was only beat out by the
Vet. Copy this exhaust system to your 318, 331, 354, 392, 413 or 440 powered
Imperial with the additional feature of the "X" before the mufflers ( which was
not known about at that time ) and you will have one movin two & ah half ton
sled.
The same exhaust may have also been on the limited production street version
of the Winged Dodge and Plymouths.
As we all know the engineers spend hours on this subject and all we as owners
must do is to copy their best pieces of "home-work" to our Imperials.
