The hood pad is not a place where the
crooks live, it is the soft insulating pad that keeps the paint on the hood
from blistering from the heat of the engine, and also makes the hood sound nice
is solid when you close it. Of course it deadens the sound of the engine, both
to the outside world and to the interior of the car.
I’m not aware of anything similar for the trunk lid, except on the 81-83
coupes. What year car are you asking about?

a report to let you all know that I received the hood pad I ordered for
my current project (a 67 Crown 4 Dr. HT) in 4 days, from time of order to
receipt of merchandise.
