Doh!  Jumped too fast I guess.  That would have been a better way to go.  My
mechanic said, however, that if I did that, my "check engine" light would
stay on.  If that was the case, I would never know if there was a REAL
"check engine" warning.

You can easily add an external regulator (same one as all the earlier
Imps used) for about $12.  Another option would be to have a local
alternator shop rebuild your alt. and add regulation to it basically
turning it in to a one wire alternator.
