Hi Jim,
It certainly points to the charging system not working. I'd get the car
started and hook up a volt meter to the battery. You should be charging 13.5 to
14.2 volts at the positive terminal. If not go to the back of the alternator and
hook the voltmeter to the large stud and check voltages. They should be the same
if not slightly higher. If the alternator isn't charging (a quick check if you
don't have a voltmeter, is to take a screw driver and hold to the back case of
the alternator while it's running-it should be magnetized and pull the
screwdriver to the case). How about the voltage regulator? You hadn't mentioned
that had been replaced. You can "full field" the alternator at the regulator
connection to verify the alternator is good. Another possibility is a burnt or
corroded connection at the bulkhead connector wire the alternator wires travel
in to the ammeter in the dash. Hope this helps.
