Re: IML: driving a big car in Europe

Hi,

I am driving my 67 imperial crown in Holland. Even though Holland is a small country, w've got many differences in the areas. Were I live it is no problem to drive a large american car. Even in midtown I can park the car, only not in the multilevel parkplaces (don't know the right name). There are many classic American cars in Holland. We don't have to pay roadtax for cars older then 25 years, and the insurance is only 85 euro's a year.
If you then drive on propane, the cheapest fuel in Holland, you can drive your classic car very cheap.
The only problem is keeping your car driving, specialy an Imperial. Lots of parts available for the more common brands like buick, chevy etc, but it is difficult to get parts for my Imperial.

When we were on our Holiday to Hungary, the car was an attraction. People wanted to sit in it, made pictures and filmed the car. They even applaused when my wife hit the pedal to get up the hill. That's matbe because the sound off the motor is special, I've been told the exhaustpipes are Daytona racepipes???? Whatever, the sound is brilliant.

Self-Introduction: The proud owner of a 67 crown. A fabulous big car, at least for our standards, which drives very good. Drove us without any problems to a 3000 km holiday in Hungary last year. Unfortunately my wife had a little accident and crashed the right front fender and the fender extension. It happened last year (2003) october and I still haven't found the right parts. Wanted to sell it, but now we changed our minds and we are going the store the car. In de meantime I going to try find the missig parts to get the car into the shape it deserves to be. I've got the original service manual and selling brochure.
