Re: IML: Pictures of Car Show in Pakistan..

Hi Carmine.. Sorry for taking some time in responding to your questions... Here are all my answers :

1)    This car was imported into the country in the early 80's by the Saudi Arabia Embassy or the Kuwaiti Embassy. I guess it was brought in slightly used..Don't think it was a U.S Service man's car. The car was then sold to a friend of my dads a few years later and we were gifted the car in 1998.. It took me about two and a half yrs to get it in perfect condition.
2)    I had the front turn signals as well as the rear lights remanufactured here.. I prefer the amber lights as opposed to the clear lights... It's not required by Law to have amber lights..
3)    I don't think there would be much of a difference between my car and the U.S ones.. Speedometer is in km/h...
4)    Most of the reactions I get are "check out the airplane" or " Is this the smallest car you have" .. basically funny comments..These cars get looked at alot and you can generally push your way around in traffic due to them being twice the size of most Japanese cars here...
5)    Gas converted to US prices is about $ 2.75 a gallon out of which I get about 10 miles.. Very very expensive to drive these cars...

Hope this answers your questions.. Pls free to ask any more questions.. I'm getting married  in the first week of Jan and I plan on using the NYB for one of my wedding functions...

Best Rgds

Hasan

I hope you don't mind if I ambush you with a few
questions... The idea of vintage US cars ending up
half a world away is somehow very fascinating to me...
To think that a '78 NYB that was built just a few
miles from my house is now driving around in Pakistan
is just...strange!?!
Now for the questions:
1) How did your car get to Pakistan? Was it shipped
there when new, or brought over later? Could it have
been a US serviceman's car?
2) I notice that your front turnsignals are amber,
instead of clear w/amber bulbs. I assume this is the
law.. Were these lenses somehow painted, or were they
molded in amber? That would have been one heck of a
small production run!
3) Are there any other differences between your car,
and a NYB from the US? I assume it has a metric
speedometer, but are you aware of any other
differences?
4) What type of reactions, posistive & negative, do
you receive with this car?
5) How much is gas over there? hahaha!

Thanks,Carmine F
