IML: M-6 Hydraulic Operated Trans. and Fluid drive

Greeting's:
There seems to be some confusion
as to what the Fluid Drive & M-6 Semi-automatic transmission have in
common. The answer is Nothing.

The Fluid Drive Unit replaces the Fly
Wheel & is separated from the trans. by the clutch disc & does NOT use
10W motor oil. The F/D Unit requires a special oil which I have been
unable to locate. I have used hydraulic jack oil in the F/D unit for
years with success as it is a non-foaming oil, specific for pressure
applications. WARNING ! Do not remove the F/D plug when the car has
been driven. It is recommended, to let the Unit cool over night as a
safety precaution.

The M-6 Hydraulic operated transmission has an oil pump in the
trans.
similar to the eng. oil pump & operates by virtue of a solenoid,
governor & hydraulic pressure. Fluid capacity is three pints and 10W
"NON"-Detergent motor oil is recommended.

That's All Folks
Jim
There may be literature on the F/D and
Transmission on the 1939 page.

Thanks Bob!

Apparently you are "right on" with the 10W motor oil in the Fluid Drive.  I've had several replies with the same answer!  I'm still looking for what is called a "Propeller Shaft Center  Bearing  according to my 1948 Desoto parts book.  I don't have a Chrysler parts book but I would imagine they are the same.  I have parts numbers according to the parts book but no way of knowing where to find them.

Thanks for your most appreciated reply!  :-)
