Hey, Drake -- No Imperial came with the 426 hemi, largely because of noise. Many of the engine's performance features added to the decibel and vibration level, and it was not Imperialistic enough to be offered as an option. Imperials went directly from the 413 in '65 to the 440 in '66. Since the stock hp ranged around the mid-300s, the 440 was sufficiently powerful and quiet. In fact, that's why so many mid- to late '60s Imperials (and lesser Mopars) have timing chain failure. The stock gear teeth are nylon, an engineering blunder that slipped through as part of the noise reduction effort. Happily, aftermarket gear teeth and even late OEM parts are sturdier. The hemi did not suffer from this design flaw. A 426 hemi would fit, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you like noise while driving. Now, old style hemi is another chapter, but I don't think that was your question. -- David Drake Rickertsen <ct_drakeula@xxxxxxxxx> To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent by: cc: mailing-list-owner@imper Subject: Re: IML: unlimited supply of idiots ialclub.com 12/06/2004 09:46 PM Please respond to mailing-list Wow! that's pretty sad. The Lebaron looked like a great restoration project. Does anyone know what years the Imperial had Hemi engines or perhaps what models? Were Hemi engines an option or standard in some? Ct.
