Hello All! I have been in 'lurk mode', as I still don't have my Imperial. However, I have been redetailing the engine bay of my 56 Dodge as the waterpump gave it up after 49 years, and the 'rust spray' got the fenders and the cross member. I also have looked at several Imperials on E-bay and in ads, but none were in the condition or location that I could 'start from'. I'd like a #3 at least. In May of last year, I thought we found a nice '63, but it was not what we thought, as so we passed. I then almost bought a pretty nice 60, probably should have, but it did not have the leather interior, and the rear quarters were 'in need'.. Since then I've looked at a couple of 55 & '56's, but they were either on the west coast or above my max budget. Reading your collective posts, I keep shifting thoughts (not only memories) on the Imperial to 'be satisfied with'. They are all (1955-56//57-59//60//61-63) Unique in their own right(s). Even the Big Post Exner ones- the Oversize 60 Lincoln Continental evolutions (64-66) are magnificent. So I am still seeking. Meanwhile a related event occured. I mentioned I have a Concours Jensen Interceptor Convert, well my friend (who I almost bought the '63 with), sent me an e-mail one morning that there was a Jensen Interecptor I RHD for sale in MD. I went to look at it and we bought it.The price was right-not enough to affect my Imperial aspirations. I am mentioning this because of the Jensen Bros.-Chysler Corp. connections: My '74 has the 440, but this early I (one) has the 383. Most important it has the original Vignale Dash with Twin pods for the speedo and Tach- very much like the Ferrarri's- but to me, most like the 60 Imperial Dash. The engine is seized, the Floorboards have holes, the Body is 90%, but the Interior is totally intact. The Dash and console are perfect &- other than needing a good clean-up and redye- the Leather is totally together. The Chrysler Connection males me wonder what the influence to the Twin Pods were- I believe it was the 60 Imperial. Mostly I wanted to thank Hugh for his post about the 58 and the Legacy story of the 100 year old man who worked at the Reo factory. YES, these Vintage cars are works of art, as well as represently superb engineering of their respective era's. Hugh where are you located, and what is the name of your museum? Someday, I'd love to meet you and see your museum! Sherman D.
