Re: IML: I just bought another lost puppy home

Tom,
Good luck with your new car. My 56 I just started on was the same way. No keys!!!! I went to a good old Car parts store and bought a key cylinder from them and just changed that part of it. It came with keys. Just a thought since you will get a different key anyway. Cost me about $11.00 and did it my self. I still need a whole lock for the trunk since some one pried the whole thing out.

Good luck
Tim

I just save a 1962 Crown from the dismantlers. Interior is pretty good,
exterior is fair, but needs to be redone. Engine, frame, exhaust all look
clean. Born and raised in California. No idea if it runs as there are no
ignition or trunk keys available. Any ideas how I can get into the trunk?
Will the ignition key for this year open the trunk? I am going to take the
ignition switch out and see if a locksmith can cut a key for me.

Anyone have any parts or documentation for sale for a 1962?

You think I like Mopars :-))

Interestingly enough...just to do some checking, I went to my local
chrysler dealer (a swindler if i EVER saw one...there are good ones in
the area, just not by my house). The service manager told me that
he's seen many a604's go for over 200K miles if you change the fluid
and filter at least twice a year. If you let it go a long time (100K
miles say...) then you severely hurt the life. He didn't say that was
a good design by any means, he simply was sharing what he found as a
way to lengthen the life. He also mentioned remembering to reset the
CVI when you swap the fluid...(i think this can be accomplished by
simply disconnecting the battery for a half hour or so..alas your
engine computer also has to redo itself...)

Just another tidbit I picked up, I'm not sure just how much merit it
holds, but seems reasonable enough, considering everything else I've
learned about this tranny that simply defies conventional logic...

Both my friendly, trusty mechanic and the closest "official" dealer told me
that an updated service schedule calls for replacing the transmission fluid
every 30,000 miles. I asked them both if they were serious and they said
yes.
