Glen,
I would at least change the oil and oil filter. Run a hose from the suction 
side of the fuel pump to some clean gas. Keep it away from the motor so 
there wont be any danger. When you start the car watch the oil pressure, if 
it doesnt come up after about 5 seconds I would shut it off. Also after 
running a bid watch the temp gauge. Here is a list of what I did for mine 
that sat from 1978.
1-changed the plugs
2-new points
3-new cap
4-new points
5-new fuel pump
6-new rotor and cap
7-new coil (mine was bad)
8-cleaned fuel filter (you probably have a actual fuel filter at the carb. 
Not sure..
Mine fired right up and runs good.
