Re: IML: 1953 Imperial Grille

Hi Rick. Mine is in pretty rough shape. The cast parts have a surface that is like 40 grit sandpaper. And the color value is a very flat aluminum...

A little about my '53...other than the front seat and front door panels, it is, from a cosmetic standpoint, pretty much original, with under 70K miles. The (green) paint is original, although thin and chipped in spots, but overall presents itself fairly well. I am saying all this because I don't need a Condition One grille to match the rest of the car. But is certainly needs to surpass the Condition 5 grille that is one it now!

It is nice that there is not a lot of brightwork on the '53, and some of it is stainless, so no problems there. I found "Imperial" side lettering on ebay, a NOS front bumper many years ago, a nice front door handle, so I have upgraded it piecemeal. But that grille...

What part of the country are you in, Rick?

I am in the process of removing my 53 grill for re chroming...what shape is yours in? If it is all there it will prob. be cheaper to re chrome it, as any used ones will most likely need to be re chromed too.

I believe, but am not completely sure, that the '51 and '52 also are identical. Please let me know if you have any info on this. Thanks.
