Tim, I cant help you much as far as the door problem, but it sounds like you might have one of two possible problems. One could be calcium build up on the glass. This comes from really hard water being allowed to dry on the surface. VERY carefully try something like CLR which you can get at the grocery store for calcium deposits in your shower. KEEP IT OFF THE PAINT.
