Is there a fuseable link to the relay? I know the 69 has one because I
managed to burn it out jumping the relay. This was on the 69 I owned in the
early 70's. If the link is bad, you either need to replace it, or run a jumper
around it to start.

Thanks! I did spend some time with the '68 on Sunday. I found a
combination of things that are giving trouble, but still can't get it to
crank.
The neutral safety switch is not actuating properly. I found
that if I left on the gear selector in "Park" while turning the key, I get a
click at the starter solenoid. That means to me that everything is working
except that the starter itself isn't cranking.
If the engine was
seized, I believe that I would overheat the starter if I hold the key in the
start position for a little while, but I am not getting any heat there. I can
reach the starter with my hand from the top of the engine compartment. I did
discover that the little wire to the starter was loose, but now it is tight.
I have also discovered that the starter is perfectly clean. That means
that it was new when the car was parked many years ago. It was running in May
and I had no trouble getting it started then, but I do now remember the thing
about pulling on the gear selector. For some reason the starter has quit
working, or is it possible that there is something still wrong with the relay?
I am thinking that if the solenoid down at the starter clicks, then the relay
is doing its job, and I have a dead starter.
Let me know if you have
more ideas.
Thanks!
Paul
