>From my experience, when loose terminals is the problem, a big spark takes place
in the gap between the two terminals, and you "lose power" completely, even for
the lights or radio. Its as if somebody disconne\cted your battery. Then you
go out there, you jingle the terminals, power is restored, then try to turn the
starter again, and the same thing happens all over. If you are watching, you
see smoke coming from the loose terminal. Then you hit the loose terminal with
a hammer, and it works temporarily.

That has happened lately to all my 3 cars, being cheap and using terminals that
cannot be tighened any more!

I'm cheap too, but the reason I am living with this problem on two of my cars (including an Imperial) is that there are no easy replacements for the positive battery cables. The negative is a simple remove and replace, but the positive has a couple of wires and disappears into the harness. I guess I have to replace the terminal end, but I figure that'll end up as big a hack job as what I'm living wtih now.
