RE: IML: 1967 brake problem and parts recommendation

Tom,

I'm rebuilding the entire brake system in my '67 LeBaron now. The only
place I've been able to find parts locally is through Autozone. Everything
I've ordered should be in on Friday. I'll post an update after I have the
parts in my hands.

My car had been in a barn for the last decade and a half. Sorry, I can't
help you with symptoms you are experiencing. Mine hasn't had brakes since
I've owned it. I'm looking forward to being able to stop.

Rob McCall
'67 LeBaron

Hello all.

I have a 67 imperial with interesting brake problem. There are 3 unique
symptoms depending on any give application of the brakes.

1. soft pedal all the way to floor - if pressed real slow
2. normal operation sometimes
3. very hard pedal sometimes
4. sometimes the 1st ~20% of travel has little braking, but you push
past a hard spot, then it brakes fine (though sometimes after the hard
spot it goes all the way to the floor.

Questions:
A. I am presuming a master and power assist problem. If I were to
replace both, any advice on where to go?
B. Any advice as to what to replace first or would it seem both are
bad?
C. What is rebuildable vs just go get the reman part.

Things I have checked. There does not appear to be any vacuum leaks
(going by sound). Perhaps 1 exception here is there is a very slight
sound inside the car at the point where the brake actuator shaft goes
through the firewall. The hose going to the power assist pulls fine.
Front pads were replace about 9 months ago. Entire system was bleed out
at that time with fresh brake fluid. Though rear reservoir is quite
dirty again.

Thanks in Advance for your advice.
Tom.
