One KEY thing is to use a main power source from the bulkhead connector fuse block that has NO OTHER electrical item hooked to it. Usually, there's an empty plug down there that could be "hot" when the ignition is off and probably one that's ignition switch controlled.
A customer called the other day with a concern on his keyless entry system. It was acting up for some reason, but it started after he got a remote mount CD player installed in the trunk. Seems the installation people used the power feed wire to the security system control module in the trunk to power the CD player and it did interfere with the normal functioning of the keyless entry system, which is the only thing in that part of the vehicle that would have a power lead going to it that was not connected to the rear lamp harness.
If the car has electric door locks, the remote start unit might or should have some interface with the door locks to make sure they are locked before the remote start will work. There might also be a timer in the control module that'll let the engine run in the remote start mode for a certain number of minutes and possibly one restart after that time elapses. Remote start functions can be great, but if you don't have a fuel injected motor, who's going to pump the gas to set the fast idle cam?
