HP carbs

In the first couple of years, the AFBs had larger throttle bores than the regular engines did--except in CA.  All of the Holleys were 600cfm 4160 models whereas the AFBs and AVSs were 625 cfm, with the 440s being a little bigger (possibly).  The best Holley was the one on the 1971 383-4bbl.  It was one of the few Holleys that had larger secondaries than primary throttle bores (1.50/1.75) that was rated at about 750cfm.  That same part number carb still exists in the Holley catalog, but is now "standardized" for general applications and upgraded with dual inlet race bowls, electric choke, and universal side linkage.

The Carters were more trouble free than the Holleys back then.

Enjoy!
