Way back when I was in the
parts business, we used to fill the steel brake lines with sand to make certain
bends in them without kinking them. Just make sure to blow out the lines
thoroughly before installing them.

Subject: *: IML: Any tubing benders out
there ?????
Hello everyone,
It feels like Monday all over
again.
I just wanted to offer a couple of things to all
you IMPERIAL and Chrysler mechanics out there.
First of all "WHITE OUT"........... excellent for
marking timing marks on the harmonic balancer and "degree flange"........
and I always use it when disassembling to mark various heater control cables
or "slider" control cables, transmission cable, etc......................
that way everything goes back together the same way as when it came
apart..........
CHALK................ I use chalk primarily for
marking the exhaust manifolds on my 440 engine to help me locate the spark
plug holes........ I just make a mark on the exhaust manifold or shroud
right above where the spark plug hole is, and that way, when I'm bent over
the fender, resting my BIG belly on said fender, I can easily tell where the
plug is ........for easy removal and easy replacement..............it's
AMAZING how much easier it makes it.......
and don't forget to oil the spark plug threads
.....and turn them in " by hand" when replacing them.
GASOLINE....................Lately with the GAS
prices inching up ......I've stumbled upon something that may or may not be
helpful...........I'm testing it to see what happens..........I use my '77
NYB with a 440 engine as a daily driver......... and where I live, in
Oregon, the gas prices are a 30cent difference between regular and premium
and normally I ONLY use premium, because I care about my BIGG cars.........
but, a couple of months ago I found that if I fill up with "regular"
gas...........20 gallons at $1.53 a gallon............versus "premium".....
20 gallons at $1.83 a gallon.......... I save $6 dollars.......WOOHOO
!!!
But the BEST part is: I take 99 cents of my savings
, and go buy a bottle of "SNAP" Super Octane Booster" to put in the tank
with the 20 gallons of REGULAR gas, and guess
what.................
SMOOTH running 440.......... no pinging on
hills.......... no rough idle............no spark
knock..............nuttin'.............Tuned by ear to get 15+ miles per
gallon............and I know that I have been getting slightly better gas
mileage since I have been adding the octane booster.
So far.......... after two months, no negative
aspects whatsoever.
Any comments you guys have, would be much
appreciated.
Also............... Is there anyone within 200
miles of Portland Oregon, who would be willing to teach me how to do brake
lines ??????............
Bending tubing, end fittings, flexible hoses,
etc......................I mostly need to know about bending tubing
..........
I have three cars I need to
tackle.
THANKS............ all replies much appreciated
