It happened on one '57 Imperial ! The owner called me because the car 
started in .. R and there was no other gears than R ..
The cable was unhooked at trans (which remained in its last position 
before unhooking: R) and some great mechanic had bypassed the trans. 
safety switch some years ago !!!
