"Sterling Silver", code A1 is the color on this car. Sterling silver was used in both 1981 and 1982. In addition, there was also a "Silver", code A2 in 1982. I don't know what the difference was in appearance. 1983 has an A9 code, which was a Charcoal gray, a darker shade, as you say. This must be what is on your car, although I cannot explain why your data plate says AA9 - there is no such code in the book that I can see. I see your car is an 83, that explains the difference. The options and color codes were different for different years.
