This is correct for either a 67 or 68 if it is already factory equipped with
stereo speakers (the ones in the doors). The 8 track tape cartridge is a
continuous loop, it does not reverse. What is coming apart on yours is the
splicing tape. This is special tape which is sold at Radio Shack amongst
other places - I have had to repair a few of mine that way also, but the
repair is easy, and permanent. You do have to pay attention to the way
these are wound, to keep the continuous loop working right. These tapes are
at least 20 years old, and if you live in an area where they see a lot of
heat, the glue just dries out and fails sooner or later. If you keep the
tapes out of the direct sun, they seem to last quite well, at least for me,
and I live in the desert!
The IMPcops sometime get on my case for posting eBay items - so I refrain
unless it is a really hard to find piece, which this certainly is, and since
he is willing to sell it for $50, and it works, that makes it the bargain of
the week, in my opinion.
