Use a wire wheel (I used an air powered die-grinder) to clean the surfaces that the gasket will touch on both the manifold and the head.
Zap the threads of the studs and get new nuts and lock washers.
Reinstall new gasket and tighten down.
Be thorough and patient.

Would anyone care to share their advice on how to change an exhaust manifold gasket on a 440 for a 73 Imperial? The offending gasket is on the drivers side. Any tips would be appreciated.
