MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN PARK when you short the
relay. I had one start once in gear. Was an ugly, ugly thing with
fortunately no injurys other than some bent metal. Local guy was working
on his sister-in-laws car. His wife came out to watch and was standing in
front of the car. It started in gear and crushed her to death before he
could get in the car to put it in reverse.

That sounds like the neutral safety switch has gone bad. You
can rule out the starter by jumping the terminals on the starter relay. If it
cranks, its not the starter. It could also be the starter relay.

my 68 imp was working fine and than didnt start in park.it
started in neutral.now it doesnt start at all.yet the electrics work.it
is completely silent.worked fine other than not starting in park
today.does it sould like alt or regulator.the last time my other car died
it was the starter and than it needed an engine rebuild.any ideas through
