Radiator overflow reservoir

Coolant overflow systems are a good idea on any car. Ethylene Glycol antifreeze/coolant is a toxic liquid. While you can pressurize liquid you can't compress it. As it heats up it expands and has to go somewhere so, it passes through the overflow hose. If it can be caught in a reservoir it will not be poured on the ground and soak into the water supply where we get our drinking water and will then be returned to the radiator when the system cools. While a few cars wouldn't make a great difference in the water supply a great many hundreds of thousands would. Besides the little A/F that could drip on your driveway and (being a sweet tasting fluid) your pets would likely drink or lick it up and get Ethylene Glycol poisoning.
So do use a coolant reserve system with the proper 'closed system' cap.
Just my $0.02 worth.  My 66 Crown Coupe has one and works great.

Very interesting Paul, but I vividly remember cars in the fifties and how they were constantly low on coolant as it apparently went out the overflow tube to the ground. I also remember how neat I thought it was when a simple thing like the overflow reservoir was added to solve this problem....
