Of Texas and a certain 58

No, no spring meet so far and I agree with Dimitrios - again - that such a
gathering in summer is quite unpalatable. While I am at my current job I
cannot foresee having any Saturday free for a very long time, so my thoughts
on the matter are moot, to say the least.

On the other hand, I found I had some spare free time today and decided to
drive my 58 again. Where does the time go? It has been ages since I last
had it out of the garage. March, at the latest. Anyhoo, I charged up the
battery, inflated all the tires correctly and topped up the brake fluid.
Even with my new twin pot master cylinder in place, the level was still a
little on the low side. Furthermore, getting to the nut that holds the top
on is still difficult. Sigh.

My daughter decided to come with me on my test drive. She says she has
missed being driven around in it and could not be dissuaded, not that I
tried that hard. At first, the car was not running particularly well but
everything started coming together as we cruised along. The brakes are
still nowhere near as good as I think they should be. I need to find the
time to try Kerry's method for bleeding them properly. That will make a
huge difference, I am sure.

All in all, I am happy to report a satisfactory return to the road of my
Imperial. I shall take it to work tomorrow. Maybe some folks will buy a
new Mopar if they see a forty five year old one still alive and kicking. It
has yet a new bumper sticker on it, too, swiped from the dealership's
inventory of promotional devices. It reads, minus the Dodge emblem, "Yeah,
it's got a Hemi."
