If you have a Holley I say junk it. I have never had luck with the Holley. (I can only get about six months on a rebuild before they leak again. I have had great luck with the Carters and now Edlebrocks (same thing). I own over 30 Imperials and Chryslers and motor homes with the 440 and 413. I always end up replacing the Holleys with Carter carbs. My first car the 71 New Yorker did exactly the same thing your 68 is doing, change or rebuild the strait forward Carter carb. Replace the Holly as I did. (I still have that 71 New Yorker) Also, do not run on diluted oil or start that 440 with out checking the gas in the oil! I have had up to a gallon of gas run by the rings from defective carbs. I have heard of people blowing up the crankcase upon starting a engine that had gas in the oil. De Vere 1960-1975 Imperials and some Chyslers. Do not run the engine again until you change the oil (smell your dipstick, I think you will smell gasoline). Your most sure way to fix this is to replace the carburetor. If it is a Holley, you will wind up replacing it anyway. If it is a Carter, you may find the problem with a rebuild, but buying a new one is a much surer way to save this car.
Do not run it with diluted oil!
