Imperial as a test bed

Hi,

Don't know if anyone has thought of this before, but do you ever get
the idea that Chrysler used Imperials as a kind of a test bed for new
equipment, and ideas?

To start a list:

67-69 Budd brakes
81-83 EFI for a V8
90-93 Electronic Air Suspension

I'm sure there are more.  Maybe they tried the new ideas on the
most expensive, and gadget filled, but low volume cars to work the
bugs out?

There just seems to be a common thread of :
"This is the year that Chrysler did  (or tried) _______"  type of thing.

Just a thought.
