blower motors and kickdown linkage adapters

On the subject of blower motors: Most blower motors are physically very
similar. The main distinctions being direction of rotation ( depending on
which end of the motor shaft the fan is mounted on ) and the physical
mounting. The rotation is the important issue, as the physical mounting
tends to be on the motor thru bolts and this issue can be re-engineered if
absolutely needed.

Most competent parts places can refer to whats called a buyers guide, and
the heating -air conditioning catalogs are no exception. If you can
determine the rotation , which usually you can do by looking at the squirrel
cage, then you can pick a motor from the catalog that will work. Since the
fan speed is controlled by a separate bank of resistors and the switch,
thats not usually an issue.

I have replaced several heater - a/c blower motors over the years by this
method, on vehicles that were no longer officially listed in various
catalogs.

On the subject of the kickdown linkage and the Edelbrock TM-7 manifold,
Edelbrock sells a little adapter you bolt to the carb that compensates for
the different linkage geometry. In nearly any performance catalog that
lists Edelbrock carbs, you will find it nearby. The main thing is that you
want the kickdown to be fully rearward or downward, forcing the kickdown
lever fully back, when the carb is at wide open. You absolutely dont want
the kickdown linkage to be disconnected as this will cause transmission
problems, the Torqueflite references throttle pressures internally to the
kickdown linkage.

Good luck folks
