Elijah, Alan; I know that a 426 Hemi was never offered as an option but it would be an intriguing idea to add one to an Imperial that comes sans engine. Picture a 1957 or 58 Imperial with one installed in place of the 392. Adapt the original accessories to it, paint the block silver, and find a way to stamp "Imperial" into the valve covers, since the 392 ones likely won't fit. The icing on the cake would be be have a pushbutton drive trasmission bolted to the back of it. Remember the debate about putting a 440 in place of a 392 and how much faster the car would be? There would be no debate about how much faster the car would be with an "Elephant" under the hood. The only trouble would be fitting that engine between the inner fenders, lol!, the 392 was a tight squeeze. The 426 would likely work well in a 67' or 68' though. Best Regards Aran Foster 1954 Imperial Newport Needing A left Side Taillight bezel and other trim parts ( Just doing some more far fetched bench racing. Still it would be a nice way to avenge the rodders for all of the 392s they've pulled from our beloved cars.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elijah Scott" <imperial1971@xxxxxxxxx> To: <mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, December 27, 2002 6:29 PM Subject: Re: IML: Imperial with 426 hemi > --- Alan Harper <alan__harper@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > When, if ever, was the Imperial available with the > > 426 hemi engine? > > Alan, > > The short answer to your question is never. > > However, there is always a REMOTE possibility that > someone managed to special order an Imperial with a > 426 hemi.
