Actually, the reason for the GM alternator swap has nothing to do with the part being GM but rather that it's an easy swap, that type of alternator is very common and the biggest thing is that it bolts right into existing Chrysler brackets. I wouldn't care if it was Opel or Simca, if it was readily avaliable and worked better than stock, I'd be in for it. I do have a couple of 100amp Chrysler alternators though and will use them instead (yeah, I have the brackets for the 440 too).
