Welcome to our little group. You'll find there are quite a few people here who have worked on 54s, and they will be able to advise you when you need help. There is no reason to change to 12 volts, or to change the brakes to disc brakes - the car worked just fine when it was new, and will again if everything is in good shape. The 54 Chrysler and Imperials were just about the best built and engineered cars on the road when they were new, reliable, comfortable, and very powerful. They don't need anything updated to be used on today's modern roads.
