"Imperials Wanted" section

 Glad you noticed that,  some of us never would have since we never take a look at that section. One thing that I have noticed in the parts for sale section is that some persons have four or five recent ads posted with regard to parting out cars, many of which are not Imperials. It seems that they are using the free ad space to hustle a private auto wrecking business. I don't have any objections to people making a business out of selling parts but they should be above board about it and not masquerade as just another joe with a parts car.

 I have had an experience where a fellow contacted me, through an ad on the Parts Wanted page, saying that he was going to see a guy with some 54' parts and that I should send him a list of what I was looking for. The list that I sent him was the same one that I made up for Kerry before he went to Carlisle last year. Kerry, being the fellow that he is, didn't want to spent more then I could afford so he asked that I give a maximum price range for each part.

 I sent this same list to this character and told him to ignore the prices. Instead he shot back with a smart ass remark about," I don't know about where you are but around here you would have to pay four or five times the amounts you have listed". Obviously he was some parts hustler that was dissapointed to find out that I hadn't just stepped off the boat with deep pockets. In case you are interested I based my amounts on what I had seen asked for similar Packards parts, in similar condition, from the same era in Hemmings. Was I being unreasonable in my assertions?

I was recently killing time, surfing the classified ad section. I clicked over to the "wanted" section and realized that about 50% of the ads are obvious derby guys (some of whom are not very good liars; see below.)

"I'M LOOKING FOR 65-68 IMPERIALS TO RESTORE MOTOR AND TRANNY IS NOT A MUST BUT A DECENT BODY WOULD BE NICE.... Email is : cjbderby05@xxxxx"

Hmm.... Looking to "restore",  no motor required, decent body would be nice, and the e-mail has the word "derby" as a prefix. Now I might not be inspector Columbo of the LAPD, but something about this ad doesn't add up.

It seems a shame to me that such an excellent website has become a hang-out for those who seek to destroy the very cars the website seeks to preserve. It is especially vulgar when the guy placing the ad is obviously lying.

Just to show that I'm willing to do something, I'd be happy to help weed-out these folk in some manner. (They're pretty easy to spot.) Otherwise I might suggest dropping the "wanted" section altogether (whole cars only, not parts).

What are your thoughts?
