The 1979-1981 Gran Fury, St.Regis, Newport and New Yorker used Chrysler's
"R" body, which was the last iteration of the "B" body.

The 1981-1983 Imperial was built on the "Y" body, which was based on the "J"
body (1980-83 Cordoba & Mirada) which was based on the "M" body (1977-89
Diplomat, 1978-89 Caravelle, 1977-1981 LeBaron, 1982-89 Gran Fury, 1982-89
Fifth Avenue) which was based on the "F" body (Aspen & Volare).

In comparing widths :
exterior :
"R" body : 78.6" / "J" body : 72.7" / "Y" body : 72.7"
front shoulder room :
"R" body : 61.0" / "J" body : 58.8" / "Y" body : 58.2"
front hip room :
"R" body : 57.6" / "J" body : 55.5" / "Y" body : 55.6"
The "R" body is wider than the "J" and "Y" bodies.

So, if you want to change dashboards, try a 1980-1983 Cordoba or Mirada.
They should work in the Imperial (if used as a complete unit) as the cowl
stampings are the same for the Imperial and Cordoba/Mirada.   And the
instrument panel attaches to the cowl.
