Last week I asked for recommendations for cross-country auto transport companies. I received a few recommendations -- thank you, Eric, Javier, and Neal! I also received a number of requests for a summary. I guess it must be Imperial-moving season, eh? Here's what I've got... >From: "ERIC C MARSH" <ECMarsh@xxxxxxxxxxx> > >Tim, this seems to be a current hot topic. I've had excellent service from >Yearround Transport out of Spartanburg, SC. I agree with you about quality >first. The good news is they are quality and less expensive than the "big >names". Try them at 1-800-784-7951. They brought my 1950 Chrysler home with >zero scratches. *********************************************** >From: <tribilin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > >To ship Bubbles from Sandiego to Miami, I used Exotic. They did an >excellent job. The car came >over on an enclosed carrier. They knew exactly where the car was at >any time day or night. I >would use them again and highly recommend them. > >Javier Reynaldos >1966 Crown Convertible "Bubbles" *********************************************** >From: "Neal Herman" <chrycordoba@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > >I used Intercity Transporters to get the Aquitania from Butte, MT to DC in >1999. Bianca was shipped by Reliable from San Diego last summer. Both >were in covered trailers and arrived here fairly quickly. I wasn't going >for cheapest either, but was insistent on an enclosed trailer. The Butte >haul took longer because Butte is just a wee bit off the beaten path. *********************************************** Although I appreciate those recommendations, I've decided to go with a different company, Dependable Auto Shippers, better known as DAS, for my own Imperial move from Dallas to the New York City area. I've been told by people in both Dallas and NYC that they're one of the old, respected names in the business. And they have terminals in both Dallas and NYC (well, New Jersey, but close enough), so that makes it easy for me to settle for terminal-to-terminal transport rather than door-to-door. They've quoted me $820 for enclosed transport. I waived the usual $50,000 insurance, which would have cost $200 more, and door-to-door service would have cost an additional $200. I used the instantaneous quote interface at their web site: http://www.dependableautoshippers.com But I also called them, and was offered a $50 discount for booking before April 30, which wasn't included in the web site's quote. Once I get to my new home in New York in early May, I'll post my experiences with DAS here. Tim Klein '67 Crown 4DHT Plano, Texas --
