Since ebay doesn't reveal what a bidders true bid is until the end of the auction, someone has to bid against the highest bidder to make the amount go up.For example, if an item is listed at $100 & a person decides its worth $500 & bids that much,until another person places a bid, the bid price will show $100.When the second bids & doesn't place a bid that go's beyond $500, he'll get an outbid notice. If he keeps bidding in small amounts, it'll appear a lot of bidding is going on. In this example, if the second bidder had bid, say $450, he would be in front with a total of only 2 bids for the auction. John "A.
