<snip>

Last year I had to buy new gears for one of the power windows in my 74
Imperial, but just a few months ago, the gears stripped again. Could the
track be bent? Or were the gears already partially worn, and they just
needed some use to break? How do I grease, and if they are bent, straighten
the tracks for the power windows? I need the gears, or the whole motor
assembly for a rear left door on a 74 imperial. If anyone knows where I can
find one, let me know. Thanks.

The parts are available in you local Auto-Parts store....luckily enough.
A few posts have come across this List lately regarding maintenance and
repair of power windows. Perhaps looking thru the Archives and lQQking thru
those posts will help. Some were very lengthy and informative.

As far as WHY the gears seem to be stripping. Were those gears 'new' or
new-used? If they were used, well, maybe they were on their way out.
I don't really see how one of the guide channels could be bent. Maybe if
the channel was damaged in a bad accident??

Make sure nobody "plays" with the windows while in the back of the car.
Use the Window Lock-Out feature when you can. Make sure you let go of the
switch when the window is in the full up or down position....and not keep it
pressed. When you have the window motor out, slide the window up and down and
note any restriction.

When you have the door-panel off,it is a good time to clean out the
bottom of the door and possibly apply POR-15 if any is needed. It is also a
good time to adjust the up-stops for the window.

If you are close to Albany,N.Y.,I can get you a window motor for about $40
rebuilt by Cardone. Maybe they are cheaper where you are.
