My New Alternator

I picked up my Imperial today with it's new alternator. It's not that my mechanic doesn't understand old wiring systems. He is an old car Master! In fact the only work he does is on old cars, he wouldn't even look at it if you brought him something newer than a '75. Most of his work is on older Chevy racing cars, since they are so popular, but cars in his shop at any given time range from old Packards, Linclons, Cadillacs, Buicks, etc. Everything he does to my Imperial, he discusses the options to me. He told me the generator only puts out about 30 AMPS, and an alternator would give more charging power, and be more reliable. He told me I could send the generator out for a rebuild, or find a Chrysler Alternator from when they fist started using them, or put in one of the high power Chevy Alternators, which put out 100 AMPS, are very easy to find, and install. Well, I got the car back today, later this afternoon, and sat and chewed the fat with my mechanic 
for a few hours after he was closed, which brought us into night time. When I left and got in the Imperial to drive home, I was amazed. My dash board had never been that bright before, I could actually see everything very clearly at night. The only drawback is that I'm going to have to add another gauge for the AMPS, because if he hooked up all this power to the original gauge, it would have broken it, and it is one of the only ones that is working now. Since I also have a temperature gauge hanging under the dash which was put there by previous owners, I will probably buy a small trio cluster to put in there, until I start to restore the interior, which at this point, maybe some time. It is not my intention to throw a lot of modern technologies on it, but the one thing I love about it is the simplicity of everything compared to todays cars. One wire sounded a lot simpler than all I had before, and I want the car to be more than just a weekend driver. Don't fuss too much gang, the regulator is still there with all it's wires, and th
e generator is in a box in my back seat with it's brackets, all ready to go back on if I decide I someday want it that way. After all, it's still my Imperial, but now it's an electrical Imperial! Bill '59 Crown
