Johan, >It began about the time I fixed the "alternator" gage in the dash (it was >leaning forward and needed to be set in place again) which now works and >remains pointed almost motionless to the center. If you cannot keep a battery charged, and your alternator gauge remains almost motionless in the centre, the alternator gauge is NOT working. If the gauge was working, the usual symptoms are : Faulty alternator - constant discharge (battery never charged) Faulty regulator (point style) - constant discharge (battery never charged) Faulty regulator (electronic) - constant charge, along with a wet battery top (overcharging) Faulty battery - constanf charge (battery never charged) Is your new alternator the correct size (ie., correct amp output - a 30 amp alternator may not be enough for an Imperial). A working alternator gauge would show a discharge if the alternator was not big enough for the job. >The lights, radio and wipers all slow or dim at stop lights even with a new >alternator. The above points to an alternator that is not up to the job.
