Hi all... Someone - was it Roy? - wanted to know part numbers for afb and avs rods, was that right , or was it for the strip kits. I dont have them right here, but the afb strip kits are still around, edelbrock sells them for the 600 and 750 series carbs they sell, and I have seen them from time to time in some of the various Mopar magazines. FWIW...there are basically 2 styles of afb and avs rods out there....2 and 3 step. Basically you can swap them, but you have to swap the little metal lid that goes on top of the metering rod piston if you do. What that means, is that they are different length. The 3 step is longer - thats why it has 3 steps - and the little cover over the piston is like a little hat. The 2 step is shorter , and the cover for the piston on it is flat. Obviously you can see the mechanical problem with installing a long rod with the flat cover....it will be forced down when it shouldnt be. The main thing is just keep apples to apples and its no big deal. There is an excellent book about these carbs, its just a big paperback called " Carter Carburetors......" how to or whatever it is, I dont recall. I have had one for years, it goes into a lot more on them than youll probably ever need, but its a neat book and its not expensive. It goes into the subject of the rods and jets much better than this post could, if youre really want to dig deeper thats one way I would suggest. thanks Mikey 62 Crown Coupe
